2018 US Open: Serena Williams defeats Magda Linette in the opening round of the US Open
After giving birth to her first child during last year's US Open, Serena Williams returned to the tournament as a competitor Monday. He did not waste much time returning to his winning path on the US Open stage, defeating Magda Linette in the opening round.
Williams, 36, dropped his 26-year-old opponent from Poland in a straight set, 6-4 6-0.
Linette proved to be a bad contender in the first set, but really lost to Williams who was truly dominant in the second set. He grabbed match points with strong aces.
With his victory over Linette, Williams moved 68-1 all the time in the opening matches at major events throughout his career.

Entering the tournament as seeded No. 17 - one place behind her sister Venus and nine places higher than her current rank No. 26 - Williams will be pleased with his decisive victory in the opening round of the competition.
This is Williams's seventh tournament since giving birth, and the return to tennis has become like a roller-coaster ride. He made an impressive trip to the Wimbledon final before losing to Angelique Kerber, but he has struggled instead - failing to make the quarter-finals at another event. He suffered the devastation of his career in the first round of the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic earlier this summer.
Early this August, Williams revealed that he was dealing with the post-natal struggle and offered a message of support to others who found themselves in the same situation. Last week, he stated that he was "stronger than before" as he headed for the US Open.
Williams's victory came after top seed Simona Halep was defeated in a straight set in what was a historic opening round made by Kaia Kanepi.
Williams will pursue her 24th and seventh Grand Slam title at the US Open.
