"My guess is that it's from Cindy," a source close to the McCain family told People magazine, referring to late senator widows. "He is very protective of John's memory and heritage. He is also a widow who is grieving. I think he wants to go through this as best he can." The message was sent through intermediaries, not directly from the McCain family, according to the report.

An NBC reporter tweeted that Palin's "family source" said, "Instead of honoring Senator McCain and his family, we have nothing to add at this time. The Palin family will always appreciate their friendship with McCains and hold those memories dear."

Palin did not immediately respond to Fox News email sent Thursday morning.

Ten years ago, McCain's election as Palin became his vice-president who blew Palin into the national political focus of relative uncertainty in Alaska.

But their relationship quickly grew tense, amid allegations that Palin often refused to interview the media, or "got lost" by ignoring suggestions from McCain campaign operators.

Some critics claim that Palin is more interested in advancing her own career - and popularity among conservative voters - from ensuring the success of McCain-Palin's ticket, led by the simpler McCain.

In May, McCain published a book called "The Waveless," in which he wrote that he regretted choosing Palin as his partner from his friend, a former US. Joe Joe Lieberman from Connecticut.

McCain and Palin finally lost the White House in 2008 to Barack Obama and Joe Biden.

Randomly, Biden was scheduled to speak on Tuesday in a story of McCain's warning in the state of the Arizona senator, while Obama was invited to give a speech on Saturday at a McCain memorial in Washington, DCF After McCain's death from brain cancer last Saturday at the age of 81, Palin issued a pair of Twitter messages.

"Today we lost American origin," he wrote. "Sen. John McCain is a maverick and a warrior, never afraid of his beliefs. John never took the easy road in life - and through sacrifice and suffering inspires others to serve something bigger than themselves."
