Clubs, vases and formats: Champions League series
Liverpool, who took action in the Champions League last season, will be in three pieces in the group stage last afternoon after Benfica eliminated Paok Thessaloniki in a play-off match.
If Benfica lose then Liverpool will join Manchester United and Tottenham in two parts. Manchester City is in the pot.
A draw, which starts at 5 pm, will determine the benefits of eight Champions League groups. A team from each pot will be placed in each group. No team from the same country can be withdrawn in the same group and UEFA also decided that clubs from Russia and Ukraine could not meet each other.
Pot one consists of holders (Real Madrid), winners of the Europa League (Atlético Madrid) and champions of the six highest ranked countries. Two to four pots are determined by the club coefficient position.
