On the way to his outrageous run for his third season title in the Rogers Coupe in Montreal, Halep became the first player to deserve to the Singapore BNP Paribas WTA Final delivered by SC Global. This is the fifth year in a row that Halep has qualified for Singapore, making it the only player who will qualify for the WTA Final in every five years held in Singapore.

"In 2014, after I met the requirements my sister told me if you did five years of Singapore, then you could retire," Halep laughed at the WTA Insider Podcast. "I say, if that happens, but now, I am in this position, I will not say, I will not retire because I feel good in court and I enjoy many of these moments.

"My first WTA match is here in Singapore so it's very special. To qualify again, it's amazing."

The 2018 season Halep will most likely be remembered for his emotional tendencies and endurance to his first Slam at Roland Garros, where he defeated Angelique Kerber, GARBINA Muguruza, and Sloane Stephens in successive matches to appoint Suzanne Lenglen Coupe in her fourth major final. Although his breakthrough in the French Open may be a high record in his season, what Halep did entirely during the first eight months of the season was just as great.

Halep's efficiency in 2018 has been shocking. He was the first player to qualify for Singapore when playing only 11 matches so far, at least 20 players in addition to Serena Williams. He has made the semi-finals or better in 7 of his 11 championships, won three titles (Shenzhen, Roland Garros, Montreal), and he is the only player to make two Slam finals so far this season (Australian Open, Roland Garros). And even playing a disciplined schedule, Halep led the tour in overall wins (42-7), hardest wins (24-3), and most wins in three sets (15-3).

Running into 2018, the issue that surrounds Halep is how he will react to the weight of No.1 rank, especially after he has spent a lot of 2017 falling just short of reaching it. But if there is one overall theme about Halep's career so far, he has become his rejection. Time and time again, he has proven his endurance, refusing to accept anything less than what he wants. Halep's fortitude led to last fall at the Chinese Open and he ended the season as the 13th player to end the year as World WTA No.1. Rank 1 may be heavy for other players, but for Halep it works as a buoy.

"For me it's not something negative, for me it's a positive thing," Halep said. "The fact that I was able to reach this place means I can continue this way, so the pressure is unavoidable all the time, I have failed three or four times, so maybe that experience now I think is different.

"They asked me last night if I lost my motivation after the French Open, I was like coming, I just won, I didn't have 20 Grand Slams to lose my motivation.

"It's like a good energy bomb and a wish bomb that I want more. I feel it."

There is nothing easy for Halep this season, one fact described at the Australian Open in January. the season to make his first Australian Open final, losing only three dramatic sets to Caroline Wozniacki . This was an attempt that landed at Halep in the hospital for dehydration but found him respect among his colleagues and confidence in his ability to break the pain barrier.

In other words, Simona Halep knew she could buy it again.

"I think I've improved in everything," Halep said. "I am physically stronger, I think the service is better, my punch is stronger, I can do more with it, with a backhand, I usually want to complete a few points ...

"I think I'm a stronger player this year."
